Letter to the Editor
CIA
"I was required to work with a police chief who was a practicing sadist. He'd spend the night in a CIA safe house carving up prisoners. I protested this in a CIA memo, but I was warned that I would never get another responsible job if I didn't have the stomach for it. . ." -- John Stockwell, CIA station chief, Angola. ". . . the Agency severely criticized me when I admitted to the press that the FDN had regularly kidnapped and executed agrarian reform workers and civilians. We were told that the only way to defeat the Sandinistas was to use the tactics the Agency attributed to 'Communist' insurgencies elsewhere: kill, kidnap, rob, and torture." -- Edgar Hamorro, former Contra commander "The CIA is the covert action arm of the President's foreign policy advisers. Disinformation is a large part of its covert action responsibility and the American people are a primary target audience of its lies." -- Ralph McGehee, 25-year CIA veteran, recipient of the coveted Career Intelligence Medal And millions of deaths, hundreds of thousands of rapes, and uncounted tortures later the CIA is still able to recruit the "best and the brightest" from our institutions of higher learning. Who is President Jordan trying to kid when he states that the CIA has the same right to recruit as any other company with a "reputable training program." I sincerely pray that training to deceive, cheat, and murder the peoples of the world is not reputable. It's time we all told the CIA that they are not welcome here or anywhere else by people who want to promote true "justice and democracy" in the world. Get the CIA off campus. Let's stop America's strongest claim to shame. Monica Somocurcio
