Suspects in book thefts apprehended in Pattee: Two male students were detained, in two separate incidents, by Pattee Library staff yesterday for reportedly attempting to take books from the building without checking them out, University Police Services said.
Charges are pending on one student who was caught allegedly trying to remove books at about 7:40 p.m., Police Services Supervisor Clifford Lutz said.
A second student was detained by library staff and reported to police at 11:44 p.m., minutes before the circulation desk closed at the library, police said.
Police identified the second student and released him. Police would not reveal the students' names because neither have been formally charged.

Car hits school bus; no passengers hurt: A car collided with a school bus outside the State College Intermediate High School Tuesday, but no passengers were injured, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
David Lenker, 504 W. Drive Boalsburg, was traveling east on the 400 block of Westerly Parkway in the right lane before the incident occured, police said. When Lenker attempted to cross over into the center lane to turn, he collided with the school bus, which was traveling north toward the 600 block of Westerly Parkway, police said.
The bus, driven by Dean Harper of Pennsylvania Furnace, sustained no damage, police said.
Neither of the drivers nor the four passengers in the bus were injured.
Lenker was cited for a traffic violation.

South Allen St. mishap slightly dents 2 cars: A two-car collision on South Allen Street caused moderate damage to both vehicles yesterday morning, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
Ben-Jan Hong, 2-G Graduate Circle proceeded through an intersection at the corner of West College and South Allen and struck a car driven by Steven Sennet of 1556 Olympic Circle in Whitehall, which was traveling south on South Allen street, police said.
Hong was cited for a traffic violation, police said.

Theft: Fifty cassette tapes, valued at $300, were reported taken from a car parked at 215 W. Fairmount Ave. Tuesday, State College Bureau of Police Services said. An unidentified person broke the rear window on the passenger side, police said.

Theft: A gray wool jacket, valued at $250, was reported taken from Chi Phi fraternity, 360 E. Hamilton Ave., sometime between Friday and Saturday, State College police said.

Criminal Mischief: A moped belonging to Russell Benon, 600 W. College Ave., was damaged by an unidentified person Tuesday, State College police reported.
