Preliminary plans for a townhouse building at 121 W. Fairmount Ave. met with mixed feelings yesterday at the weekly meeting of the State College Design Review Board.
Borough Zoning Officer Herman Slaybaugh said the board reviewed the plans but was unhappy with some parts of the building's design plan. The review of the blueprints was only preliminary, and if the realtor, David Nevins, decides to continue with plans to build, the design would be reviewed again at a later date.
Nevins could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Design Review Board member Bill Whitby said the board disliked the plans because they "violated the whole design criteria." Whitby said the building was proposed as a townhouse, but the design is closer to that of an apartment.
Receiving positive recommendations at the meeting were small additions at 116 McAllister Alley and 146 N. Atherton St., and an awning addition to the entrance of the Allenway building, 315 S. Allen St.
The board also tabled designs for a townhouse on 233 E. Prospect Ave., because the planners were absent from the meeting.
Other plans reviewed at the meeting included a one-story dentist office at 223 Waupelani Drive and a six-story office building at 119 S. Burrowes St. No final decisions were made in regard to these designs.
