Listen
We have listened when the African-American Community at Penn State University has said that they are hurting, and we have understood, We have listened when the African-American Community has made what it felt were helpful suggestions to deal with racism and correct that which is inadequate and/or unacceptable, and we affirm what we have heard. We call on the entire community not just to be anti-racist, but also to be actively involved in doing something about racism, each from his or her own perspective. As Christians, we find our perspective in the example of Jesus, our Christ, who did not draw limitations around who was his neighbor, but reached out to all. The love for neighbor he proclaimed and died for would make it possible for everyone to live here, not only without fear, insecurity and frustration, but in joy, happiness and with a sense of fulfillment. Some of our neighbors are trying to tell us that it's not that way for them. Let's listen with sensitivity, respect and a concern that makes change possible. The Session
