Letter to the Editor
Justification

Jurgen K. Tappe wrote in his letter "Not Racist" on Feb. 21 that he does not believe that the incidents of the past week warrant protests.

He says that the racist posters denouncing Seth Williams did not cut down every African-American at Penn State. If he had seen the poster he would know that it offends all blacks.

Then he says that African-Americans should not take offense at the harrassment of five black women by 10 white men. "Those guys were drunk, and would have treated five white women in the same way."

I guess being drunk excuses them. I noticed that Mr. Tappe spends a good portion of his letter defending himself, "assuring" us that he is for equality.

He is like the many closet racists all over this University and throughout the country that say they are not racist, but, in a moment of anger will blurt out a racial slur. These people are not needed at this University.

The last line of Mr. Tappe's letter shows he is racist. He tells the black community, "Please don't ruin your own chances for equality at Penn State." This shows he thinks he is superior to blacks, (and the rest of us for that matter) right now. He must think very highly of himself since he uses the word "I" 13 times in the letter.

In closing, these two instances of racism are justification for protest.
