Letter to the Editor
Wants pride
As a Penn State student on internship in Pittsburgh, I have been reading about the events that have been occuring on campus over the last two weeks. When I was on campus, I had never felt compelled to write a letter to the Daily Collegian, but now that I am off campus and have listened to the comments of those in the, "outside world," I feel compelled to write. I am disappointed at the actions of a few and yet proud of the actions of others. First, I am disappointed that people, whether students or not or whether black or white, feel the need to attack others, based on the color of their skin. If these people would take the time to look past skin color they could find a beautiful person, a person, who like themselves, God created. I am proud of those people who have decided to protest the other's actions peacefully. I am proud that they have stood up for the rights of all people, the right to be treated with respect regardless of one's skin color. Violence is not the answer. As these students have shown peaceful demonstrations can get results. I urge them to keep it up as long as is necessary to get the administration to meet their demands and as long as these racial occurances continue. I urge the others to STOP THE VIOLENCE and look past those characteristics that make each of us unique and learn about the person behind those characteristics. There is one there. It is sad that now when Penn State is brought up, and it is, that people are only curious about the racial climate on campus and the recent occurances on campus. As a soon to be graduate, I want people to associate Penn State with the good things: academics and the philanthropies, such as the Dance Marathon, which by the way did an excellent job last weekend. I want to be Penn State Proud. Cami S. Craig
