The Black Caucus elected Tanya Burnett president yesterday, during an election which began before spring break.
Also elected were Vice President Walter Mosley, and Treasurer Kevin Lee. New officers will be inducted formally at the next Black Caucus meeting, scheduled for March 16.
Burnett was previously secretary of Black Caucus and is president of the Martin Luther King Jr. Interest House. Mosley was chairman of Black Caucus's Re-education Committee. Lee was chairman of the Commonwealth Campuses Committee.
Burnett was not available for comment last night.
Three candidates ran for president and vice president while the treasurer position was uncontested. The candidates gave short speeches and answered the questions of the election committee and Black Caucus members at a meeting on Feb. 23. At that time they received their nominations.
Paying members of the Black Caucus -- about 250 people -- were eligible to vote.
The candidates had to meet certain requirements set by the election committee. To become an officer one must be a financial member, meet the required grade point average, submit an application and resume, and have a petition signed by 100 people.
Other officers of the Black Caucus will be appointed by the executive council sometime in the next few weeks.
