The worst snowfall in three years slowed air and bus transportation out of the area yesterday and provided a full day's work for borough employees assigned to snowplows and salt crews.
 
A team of investigators from the state Office of the Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police arrived in State College last week to begin an investigation into racial incidents that have recently plagued the University community.
 
In the shadow of a probable rejection by the State College Borough Council, developers of the proposed Hillel apartment building Friday withdrew their request to rezone a section of downtown, but said they plan to come back soon with a new proposal.
 
University President Bryce Jordan, along with the heads of other state-related universities, presented a strong argument last Tuesday to the Senate Appropriations Committee for increased funding of the state's higher education system, officials attending the hearing said.
 
Eight students comprising four executive tickets officially declared their candidacy for the Undergraduate Student Government presidency yesterday. Another 16 students filed forms necessary to run for USG Senate positions.
 
Pamphlets challenging the historical accuracy of the Holocaust which were distributed here last month indicate insensitivity at the societal level, said Bernard Bronstein, a former board member of Hillel Foundation, a Jewish community organization.

University senior Ron Marlow announced yesterday his plan to run for a term on the State College Borough Council this November.
 
A computer interview training center partially funded by the Class of 1988 could be operational by next fall, the director of Career Development and Placement Services said.
 
A young boy used to hang around an inventor's workshop. The inventor thought the boy intelligent, with lots of curiosity. One day the boy's curiosity led him to want to try the mouthwash his mother used. The next day the boy was dead. Instead of mouthwash spray, he had sprayed insecticide into his mouth.
 
Local travel agencies report that most students traveling for spring break last week were not stranded in the sunny southern parts by the Eastern Airlines strike.
 
Milk may be "fitness you can drink," but, depending on the packaging, it may not be as nutritional as consumers believe.

A masked gunman brandishing a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol held up a local convenience store early yesterday morning and fled with an undetermined amount of cash, authorities said.
 
 
SPORTS
 
PHILADELPHIA -- On Feb. 23, 1974, the Nittany Lions snapped top 10 Pittsburgh's 22-game winning streak, 66-64, at University Park. Until last night, that was the last time Penn State had beaten a nationally ranked opponent.
 
With a third-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Southern Conference Championships on Saturday, the women's fencing team earned a bid to the NCAA Championships.
 
Domination and disappointment characterized the ski team last week at the Regional Champoinships at Bryce Mountain in Basye, Va.
 
George Mason rebounded from a 20-point deficit to edge the men's indoor track and field team, 72-65, and win the 68th annual IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
 
After five years of coming up short, the women's track and field team won the East Coast Athletic Conference Championship this past weekend.
 
Second place was not too much of a dissapointment for the men's swimming and diving team last weekend as it recorded its best finish ever at the Eastern Seaboard Championships.
