Vehicle taken from Butler found amidst damaged cars: University police investigating a vehicle break-in last week discovered a car reported missing from Butler County last month, and found signs of forced entry on nine other vehicles parked in Parking Lot 44.
Ed Jones, 131 Sowers St., reported Feb. 26 that his vehicle was damaged and forcibly entered while it was parked in Lot 44, University Police Services said.
During the investigation, police found 10 entered vehicles and identified a vehicle stolen from Butler, a city north of Pittsburgh, police said.
Police said they identified the stolen car while checking registration numbers. They later impounded the vehicle.
Most of the cars had broken windows, police said, noting that the investigation will continue. Electronic equipment was stolen from Jones' car, but other stolen items cannot be reported until vehicle owners evaluate the damage, police said.

Professor's car damaged by corrosive chemicals: A vehicle belonging to a University professor was damaged when a box containing a corrosive material, possibly acid, leaked onto the hood and fender, University Police Services said,
Alfred Traverse of Huntingdon reported his car sustained $460 damage while it was parked in Parking Lot Brown A, police said.
An unidentified person placed a box containing the corrosive on the car's hood, police said.

Bookstore dumpster dented when hit by tractor-trailer: A University dumpster sustained moderate damage when it was struck by a tractor-trailer Thursday, University Police Services said.
A tractor-trailer owned by Central Transport in Altoona struck the dumpster on the loading dock of the Penn State Bookstore on Campus, police said. The trailer's impact caused moderate damage to the dumpster, police said.

Nittany Lion Inn unscathed after minor chimney fire: A chimney flue fire at the Nittany Lion Inn caused no smoke damage and was extinguished by the Alpha Fire Company last Wednesday.
The fire, burning in the fireplace in the Fireside Room on the west end of the building, spread to the chimney, police said.
Alpha Fire company extinguished the fire, police said. The Nittany Lion Inn suffered no smoke damage, according to an employee there.

Parking lot fire damages Bellefonte woman's auto: A fire caused minor damage to a local woman's car while it was parked at the Milesburg American Legion Saturday, Rockview state police said.
The fire damaged the interior of a car owned by Deborah Lucas, 34, RD1 Bellefonte, police said.
The Milesburg volunteer fire department extinguished the fire, and police continue to investigate the cause.

Burglary: Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house, 508 Locust Lane, was reportedly entered sometime over spring break, and several interior rooms were broken into, State College Bureau of Police Services said. Police said suspects broke an outside window to gain entry to the house. No loss or damage estimate was available.

Theft: A compact disc case and 35 compact discs, together valued at $525, were reported taken Feb. 24 from the residence of Daniel Ketchen, 36 Hamilton Hall, University Police Services said.

Theft: A video cassette recorder valued at $468 was reported taken from 110 Sackett between Feb. 23 and Thursday, University police said.

Theft: An answering machine belonging to Scott Heeter, 228 S. Garner St., was reportedly taken sometime between Feb. 26 and Thursday from his residence, the State College police said. Police said they found no sign of forced entry at Heeter's residence. Loss is estimated at $100.
