The Association of Residence Hall Students closed nominations for its presidential and vice-presidential election last night.
The two week nomination process ended with three candidates vying for the presidential spot and two seeking the vice-presidency.
David Shimo, vice-president of ARHS, Brian Kocher, ARHS representative from East Halls and Craig Group, president of Centre Halls, all accepted the nominations for the ARHS presidency.
The vice-presidential race pits Melissa Pressler, ARHS representative from North Halls, against Suzanne Bowen, the current vice-president of East Halls.
At the elections that will be held March 6, the candidates will try to net the two-thirds vote necessary to earn the executive spots, said current ARHS president Dominic Mattioni. If any one candidate fails to receive the needed amount, the candidate with the least votes will be dropped and the nineteen voting members will vote again, he said.
In other business, ARHS passed by a 18-0-0 vote a four part Motion geared toward making the dining halls more sensitive to the dietary needs of certain religious groups on campus.
First, the motion advocates a reduction of the point costs of a Passover meal. Under the current plan, a Passover lunch or dinner will cost a student 400 points, twice the amount of a regular dinner. Second, the motion requests that should students miss Passover meals for which they bought points, they would not forfeit those points.
The motion also suggested that Passover meals be served in every residence hall area. The current plan is to hold Passover meals only in Redifer dining hall in South and Findlay dining hall in East Hall. The last part of the motion advocates serving meatless dishes at Friday meals in observance of Lent.
ARHS also introduced the new North Halls president, John Eliot, to the organization. Former North Halls President Kirsten Martz resigned late last week.
