Unconscionable
During my four years at Penn State I have witnessed a lot of racial bigotry and cultural insensitivity, of which the recent attack on Seth Williams and Penn State's African-American community is just another example. To me, it is unconscionable that fellow Penn State students and fellow Americans should be subjected to this kind of harassment. Those people who are responsible for this act of intolerance should, if they can take time from posting flyers, go see the movie, "Mississippi Burning"; not to see how the white FBI Agents saved the day (a historical inaccuracy), but to see a graphic representation of how some Americans were treated a mere 25 years ago. Considering the difficulties surrounding social change, I realize that 25 years is not a long time. However, it scares me to think that the same attitudes and ideas which spurred the inhumane treatment of African-Americans then, still exist and flourish on this campus today. Stuart Rubenstein
