From sushi to salsa, thousands enjoyed ethnic dishes, arts and crafts, music and children's entertainment as 26 international clubs displayed their heritage at the fifteenth annual International Festival yesterday.

BELLEFONTE -- A married York County woman who became enchanted with a "sweet-talking" convicted murderer was sentenced Friday for conspiring to help him escape prison and avoid authorities in several western states since 1986.

Some of the University's past and present students, faculty and staff came together at a reception commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Mary Beaver White Recreation Hall Friday.

The second portion of a disciplinary hearing for two University students charged with violating the student conduct code during November's CIA protest will take place tomorrow afternoon.

"This has probably been the best year of my life," says James, who is sitting Indian-style in a chair, his kicked-off clogs on the floor.

University students have increased their knowledge of safer sex in the past few years, but still are not taking enough precautions against AIDS, said a University health educator who has conducted annual surveys.

Like phantoms of pig-outs past, cravings for pizza and burgers drifted into oblivion the moment one entered the spicily-scented ethnic food extravaganza in the HUB Ballroom yesterday afternoon.

Something magical filled the air at the women's swimming and diving meet against the University of Maryland-Baltimore County yesterday at McCoy Natatorium.

Mixed feelings prevailed yesterday as the women's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Maryland-Baltimore County 177-94 in its last home dual meet of the season.

Two Bruce Blake foul shots with 11 minutes remaining gave the Lions a lead they wouldn't relinquish Saturday night, as they went on to defeat George Washington University, 89-73, at Smith Center in the nation's capital.

Playing without two of its starters and its co-captain, the men's volleyball team managed to defeat Ball State 15-10, 5-15, 15-6, 15-10 in Latrobe on Saturday.

Defense was the name of the game on Saturday as the women's basketball team suffocated Duquesne, 82-52, the team's third consecutive victory. The win raised the Lady Lions's record to 9-10 overall and, more importantly, lifted the team's Atlantic 10 record to 7-4.

En route to turning in its highest score of the season Saturday night, the men's gymnastics team received a scare during its meet against Temple and Navy in Philadelphia.

For two straight games, the ice hockey team rifled shot after shot at Buffalo State goalie Tim Nowak. But there was one difference between the two encounters: the second time around, it just didn't matter.

In its fifth consecutive victory, the men's swimming and diving team conquered the LaSalle Explorers, 123-107, Saturday at McCoy Natatorium.

After Jeff Dernlan's win at 134 gave the second-ranked wrestling team an early 10-0 lead, Iowa State never got closer than seven points the rest of the way as the Lions went on to rout the No. 11 Cyclones, 25-10, Saturday night at Rec Hall.

Some basketball purists say that a team's best offense is its defense.

It was a weekend of dreams becoming reality for fencers' Coach Emmanuil Kaidanov.

Despite the loss of two valuable all-around gymnasts, Kathy Parody and Lynn Crane, the Lady Lions held together Friday and defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania and University of North Carolina.

After its sweep of both the one-meter and three-meter competitions two weeks ago against Villanova, the diving team displayed its skill again Saturday against LaSalle with a one-two finish in the one-meter competition by Mike Westwood and Steve Zamborsky.

Penn State shot putters took third and fourth place at the Millrose Games Friday in New York City.
