  • Jail for two Iowa men in drug-related incident: Two men traveling in a rental truck on Route 150 in Boggs Township Wednesday were cited for drug and firearms violations, Rockview state police said.

    Donald E. Nevins II, 31, of Atlantic, Iowa, was charged with possession with the intent to deliver 70 white amphetamines and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

    Richard E. Morton, 29, of Marne, Iowa, was charged with one count of violating of the firearms act. Police found an unregistered .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the glove compartment and seized $800 in cash.

    Both men were placed in Centre County prison in lieu of $10,000 bail each. Their preliminary hearings will be held Feb. 8.

  • Collision at Hills Plaza injures 3 women, 1 man: Four people sustained minor injuries Wednesday during a two-car collision on South Atherton Street near the entrance to Hills Plaza, 2121 S. Atherton St., authorities said yesterday.

    Police said the crash occurred at 3:47 Wednesday afternoon when Alice P. Mahute of Houtzdale, who was traveling south on Route 322, attempted to turn left into Hills from the passing lane.

    Jana M. Holmberg, 26, of Carlisle, who was northbound, struck Mahute, police said. Holmberg told police she did not see Mahute until it was too late.

    Mahute told police she did not see Holmberg.

    Holmberg and her passenger Nancy Boland, 29, of Hollidaysburg were treated and released Wednesday from Centre Community Hospital, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.

    Mahute's parents, Steve Mahute, 81, of Houtzdale, and his wife Anna, 75, were also traveling in the car and were treated at the scene, the State College Bureau of Police Services reported.

    Mahute was cited for failing to wear a seatbelt and for making an unlawful left-hand turn, police said.

  • Accident on Route 192 injures Rebersburg woman: A Rebersburg woman lost control of her car on Route 192 in Miles Township and suffered minor injuries Wednesday night, Rockview state police reported.

    Helen Woodward, 25, was driving east on Route 192 near Livonia when her car slid on the ice, struck an bank and rolled on to its side, police said. Woodward and her son, Benjamin, 1, a passenger in the car, were taken to Centre Community Hospital for treatment, police said.

  • Theft: A coat, two textbooks and notebooks, all valued at $169, were reported taken from the second floor stack of Pattee Library Wednesday, University Police Services reported. The items belonged to Steven Boyd, 924 W. Fairmount Ave., police said.

  • Theft: Two cameras, worth a total of $239, were reportedly taken Jan. 27 from Gatsby's, the State College Bureau of Police Services reported. Police said a 35mm Minolta, belonging to Heather Gatley of 375 Simmons Hall, and a Kodak Disc camera belonging to Kirsten Singleton of 701 Ritner Hall, were reported taken from their tables.

  • Theft: An undisclosed amount of cash, a 14-carat gold chain and a pearl necklace belonging to Marirosa Lamas and Michelle Gergits, both of 203 E. Fairmount Ave., were reportedly taken sometime Wednesday from their residence, State College police said. Police said no visible signs of forced entry could be detected. No loss estimate was available.

  • Criminal Mischief: An unknown person slashed one tire on a car owned by Erik Granoff, 456 E. Beaver Ave., while it was parked near Eastview Terrace, University police said. The incident happened sometime between Jan. 31 and Tuesday.

  • Theft: A bicycle valued at $360, owned by Mike Dougherty, 416 Watts, was reported taken from the West Halls area, University police said. Dougherty told police he last saw the bicycle Tuesday.

  • Criminal Mischief: A door to 604 Shunk sustained $150 damage Wednesday when an unidentified person kicked it, University police said.
