The women's swimming and diving team will face a double challenge away from home when it competes against Boston University at 4 p.m. today and Brown University at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
The Lady Lions (5-3) have a five-year winning streak against the Boston Terriers and expect to win today.
"Boston was hit hard by graduation last year," Coach Bob Krimmel said. "A lot of their swimmers left. We have to win this one. We're going into this meet as the favorites, and you better win the ones you're supposed to."
The Lady Lions are coming off a two-meet losing streak, and Krimmel is changing the lineup for the Boston meet.
Instead of swimming the 200-meter butterfly, her specialty, Kristen Elias will swim the 100 freestyle against the Terriers.
"For Boston, we are going to play around with the lineup," she said. "But we need to go with our best lineup against Brown."
Elias won her 22nd consecutive 200 butterfly regular-season race last Saturday against Virginia.
"I actually didn't know that it was 22 straight wins until someone told me over the weekend," senior Elias said. "That gives me much more determination to keep that streak alive until I graduate."
Brown and Penn State are about equal in ability, Krimmel said.
One noticeable addition to Brown's lineup is the return of freestyle sprinter Jenifer Boyd. She sat out last season to train for the Olympic trials.
"Two years ago," Krimmel said, "she was the sole reason Brown won at Easterns."
Amy Montague and Darci Lamphere will also give the Lady Lions a run for their money.
"Montague has tormented us for many years," Krimmel said. "And Lamphere is just fantastic. You name it, she can swim it."
The Lady Lions have never won in Brown's pool.
"The Smith Swim Center has never been kind to us," Krimmel said. "We want to put that record to an end."
