Letter to the Editor
Of the people

I'd like to respond to the editorial in the January 20 issue of the Collegian entitled "Students should pick representatives." The author of the (editorial) insinuated that the selection of the CCSG liaison to the President's Planning and Budget Advisory Committee was a misrepresentation of the student population. I don't see the logic behind that.

The budget committee is not just concerned about the future of the University Park campuses, but for all of the campuses around the Commonwealth. If you attend UP, it is easy to overlook that almost one half of the total student population of Penn State attend Commonwealth campuses (taken from Dr. Jordan's enrollment figures). The only link these students have to the administration is the CCSG staff.

USG is the Undergraduate Student Government that represents the students at UP. CCSG represents just as many students as does USG and deserves just as much right to be reviewed for positions on University Committees. I'm not saying that the two USG candidates were unqualified, but USG did have the opportunity to nominate others.

What I am saying is that it's about time the Commonwealth campus students had a say in the University's policy-making decisions. Not only does the CCSG staff member have the interests of the Commonwealth campus students at heart, but as a student at UP himself, he has the best interests of the UP students as well. How can anyone call that misrepresentation?
