Letter to the Editor
Pinned by media
As a reader of and an advertiser in The Daily Collegian and as a long-time follower of Penn State wrestling, I wish to make my feelings known with regard to the article by Bob Lipsky in the January 12th edition of the Daily Collegian. The article in question refers to the fact that two Penn State wrestlers have been declared ineligible for this semester. First of all, the size of the article was way out of proportion, considering the magnitude of the story. And pictures to boot! In addition, the wrestlers broke no NCAA rules, only that they failed to qualify under more stringent Penn State requirements. It was only the number of credits involved and not their GPA's. In general, I felt the presentation of the article to be extremely negative. I have noticed, in the past, that other articles, involving Penn State wrestling have not received front page (Sports section) although they involved positive events. It seems that the attitude of the media in general to emphasize the negative filters down to the "good, old" college newspaper as well. Marshall L. Goldstein, O.D.
