My Opinion
Hindsight is 20/20

Sometimes it is difficult to realize the implications of a single sentence.

In yesterday's Collegian, the home telephone number of University President Bryce Jordan was printed in a column. In the context of Jeff Bonekemper's column, I thought the humorous intent was clear and that no one would actually think to telephone Dr. Jordan.

I thought is was obvious that it is not Dr. Jordan's responsibility to deal with scheduling problems, or other similar complaints. Jeff was attempting to comment on how student's problems can sometimes get overlooked in a large bureaucracy.

In retrospect I realize that I made an error in judgement. Dr. Jordan's home telephone number should not have been printed.

Under the pressure of deadline and with assumptions about how readers will understand a column, things like this can and do happen. This is not an excuse, just a reality.

But, it is all part of the learning process and being a Collegian editor is a learning experience. The quality of writing that appears on the Opinions page is very important to me, and I'm willing to take the responsibility for the misjudgements I make.

I sincerely hope that this has not caused Dr. Jordan any stress or inconvenience.
