Concerned African-Americans at Penn State broke off talks with the administration about improving conditions for blacks at the University Friday, accusing officials of negotiating in bad faith, but administrators termed recent discussions productive.

College students can have a dream come true tomorrow. Thousands of banana splits served at the right price -- absolutely free.

The University Student Executive Council will meet tomorrow to discuss the possibility of USEC joining the Undergraduate Student Government in its efforts to open the University Budget.

Tomorrow is the start of the four-day-long seventh annual Penn State Conference on Rhetoric and Composition. The conference is a major national forum for teachers and scholars to further learn and discuss rhetoric and the teaching of writing.

Managers of University operations such as the Bookstore, the Creamery and the HUB Eateries said their stores serve educational, not profit purposes, so downtown businesses should not be upset about the University's refusal to pay a business privilege tax.

While many people celebrated 4th of July weekend with festivities and fireworks, at least 150 volunteers spent part of the weekend setting up booths and banners for the 22nd annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

Many Taiwanese-Americans celebrated a very special 4th of July at the University last weekend. More than 2,000 delegates gathered here from July 2 to 4 for the 19th annual East Coast Taiwanese-American Conference, whose theme this year was, "Taiwan in Transition: New Challenges and Opportunities."
