Three years ago, former animator Tim Burton directed Pee Wee's Big Adventure, a live action cartoon starring idiosyncratic comedian Pee Wee Herman. Burton's Beetle Juice, which opened downtown last week, is an outrageous, storybook black comedy about two homebody ghosts trying to rid their tranquil abode of a family of annoying city folk. This slapsticky comedy, complete with claymation, computer animation and a bevy of other special effects, has the irresistible appeal of a demented children's funhouse.
