A candidate for the Republican party's nomination for state treasurer, Phillip English, claims experience and electibility are his strongest credentials for the job.

The Centre County Mental Health/Mental Retardation program in Bellefonte will receive nearly $40,000 this year to finance substance abuse programs as part of a plan Gov. Robert P. Casey announced last month.

A State College man was injured following a two-car accident at the intersection of South Allen and Nittany Avenue late Saturday, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

Three University students were arrested and placed in Centre County jail early Friday morning after a scuffle with two University Police Services officers and a cadet, but were later released, University Police said.

After watching New York run away with the National League East title by 21 games in 1986, baseball fans welcomed last year's relatively close division race.

Since division play began in 1969, no two National League teams have dominated a division more than the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds. Both have won six N.L. West crowns, but are now heading in different directions.
