A dearth of candidates for the elections deciding the executive positions in the Graduate Student Association is not an unusual problem, but it is one that occurred at last night's assembly meeting in 101 Kern.

State College Bureau of Police Services and University Police Services arrested 18 people yesterday, culminating a five-month cooperative drug investigation during which drugs with a street value of about $46,000 were purchased by undercover officers.

In the final meeting of the 18th Congress of the Undergraduate Student Government Senate, senators voted to eliminate fraternity seats, increase executive candidates' spending limit and allow USG write-in candidates to participate in election debates.

The state Consumer Advocate Office and Attorney General have filed complaints to the Public Utility Commission and Commonwealth Court about telephone services being oversold by Bell of Pennsylvania, said John Frazier, PUC spokesman.

Controversy arose about the University's right to engage in entrepreneurial activities for supplemental income after a University official spoke on the topic at yesterday's Faculty Senate meeting.

The baseball team relied on timely hitting and the pitching of Keith Bevenour in the first game to grab its first doubleheader sweep of the season yesterday against Youngstown State at Beaver Field.

The women's lacrosse team gave No.1 Temple a run yesterday, but dropped a 14-11 decision -- the Lady Lions' first-ever loss to Temple in Philadelphia -- in a rematch of last year's NCAA championship game, which Penn State won, 7-6.

The men's volleyball team, ranked second in the nation, defeated No.7 Rutgers-Newark in three games, 15-10, 15-12 and 15-3 last night at Rec Hall.
