NEWS

A recent decision by University of Michigan officials to reduce out- of-state enrollment to 30 percent sets no precedent for Penn State's future enrollment policies, said the vice president of academic affairs at Penn State.

The Panhellenic Council asked the Association of Residence Hall Students to make two or three suites in East Halls available for next year's expansion of the sorority system at an ARHS meeting last night.

Centre County residents voiced their opinions yesterday about changes they think are necessary in the Centre County Transportation Authority's bus routes.

The Interfraternity Council elected Rod Hutter from Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, 321 E. Fairmount Ave., as the new president for the upcoming year during last night's meeting.

A representative from an El Salvador labor organization said last night that foreign intervention is an obstacle that must be overcome before the Central American country can move toward autonomy.

The number of State College merchants that supported the annual Interfraterni ty Coucil's Dance Marathon continued to increase this year and the amount of donations also continued to rise.

Each day, thousands of acres of tropical, lush rain forests slowly disappear from the landscapes of South America.


SPORTS

The men's and women's fencing teams returned from the Big Apple with a split decision this past weekend, posting wins over Haverford and Temple, respectively, but coming up short against Columbia.

According to an unwritten general rule, athletes do not achieve superstar status in college unless they are juniors or seniors with at least two years of hard work under their belts.

The women's swimming and diving team completed another successful dual meet season by winning 10 of its 12 head-to-head contests.

The doubles pair of Kelly Erven and Kelly Nelson made a strong showing for the women's tennis team this weekend as they won the doubles competition at the Princeton Invitational Tennis Tournament.

ARTS

A photograph has an uncanny ability. It encourages the viewer to see past a flat, inanimate picture to a dimension beyond. A photo contains the power, comparable to the written word, of allowing a person to read between the lines.

The Eclectic Sculpture Invitational Exhibition in the Zoller Gallery features some of the most thought-provoking displays of sculpture presented at Penn State.

Six hundred eyes on the dance floor stared fixedly at the five men from Pittsburgh as they pounded out their stories on the keyboards and guitars.

The Palmer Museum of Art combined two creative forms to present a rare experience for the eyes and ears at noon last Thursday.
