Vegetarians may quiver when they hear the words beef, lamb, veal or pork, but for participants in the Red Meat Spectacular, these terms are all too familiar.

Newton is alive and well and living in McAllister Building, along with Hilbert, Gauss, Reimann and Jacobi!

To err is human, so the saying goes.

After two heart-wrenching losses last week, Head Coach Bruce Parkhill felt it was time for a change.

Andy Voit had just major decisioned Oklahoma State's Jim Gill in the 190-pound bout at Friday night's clash with the No. 1 Cowboys in Rec Hall. Voit's 13-4 win edged the Lions' team total to 19-18.

Although it is still early in the season, crunch time has arrived early for the men's volleyball team.

A strong second-half press and key free throws down the stretch Saturday sparked the women's basketball team to a much-needed 72-61 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over George Washington in the nation's capital.

The difference could have been just a step on a landing," sophomore Karl Abraham said.

The men's swimming and diving team completed its regular-season schedule Saturday with a convincing, 133-82 win over Boston University.

The men's basketball team rebounded from its discouraging loss to Rutgers last Thursday by soundly defeating St. Joseph's, 76-52, in front of 2,434 fans in Rec. Hall yesterday afternoon, giving Penn State sole possession of fourth place in the Atlantic 10.

It's not everyday that a freshman fills in for a starting All-American and turns in an exceptional performance.

The men's indoor track team emerged victorious from Saturday's Reebok Atlantic 10 Invitational, capturing the team title for the fifth consecutive year. The Lions took first place in eight of the 20 events, with Michael Timpson winning two and qualifying for the IC4As in both.

After four losses to teams in the top ten, the women's gymnastics team pulled its first upset on Saturday by defeating previously unbeaten and No. 8 Florida, 185.20-184.60 in front of a crowd of 3,690 at Rec Hall.
