Business staffers attend conference
Collegian Insider 2006

While other members of the Business Division spent spring break basking in the sun, eight student staff members gathered in Philadelphia to attend the College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers (CNBAM) conference.

Because the conference was held nearby, The Daily Collegian was able to offer this learning opportunity to several staff members. Operations Manager Patti Hartranft and Business Adviser Candy Heckard also attended.

The most anticipated event of the March conference was the awards banquet, and this year the division was honored with three national awards: Best in Category for its House Newspaper Promotion Campaign (recruiting), Third Place for ROP Group Promotion (St. Patty's Day Guide) and Third Place for Best Electronic Banner Ad (Smoke-Free Bars).

The real rewards, though, were the great ideas students gathered at the four-day conference. From advertising design to circulation tips, heads continued to spin as the staff tried to figure out how to incorporate all the new ideas into its plans.
