'Chronicles' closes in on fall release
Collegian Insider 2006

A comprehensive history of Penn State being published by the Collegian Alumni Interest Group is on schedule to come off the-press this fall, in time for Homecoming Oct. 21.

The book, which details the history of Penn State from 1887 to the 2006 Orange Bowl, is told by more than 90 editors and writers who worked at The Daily Collegian.

This article was adapted from an earlier report in the Communicator, a publication by the College of Communications.

Titled "The Collegian Chronicles: A History of Penn State from the pages of The Daily Collegian, 1887-2006," the book will run 384 pages and contain around 350,000 words.

Project manager Pete Waldron ('84) and editor Marv Krasnansky ('52) guided a network of volunteers and Collegian alumni, many of whom spent last winter and spring gathering photos, writing captions, editing copy and proofing galleys.

Katie O'Hara-Krebs ('99) has served as photo manager of the book and is working closely with other volunteers. In search of photos, they have combed the Collegian archives of old photos, negatives and bound volumes; the resources of Pattee Paterno Library; individual collections, and previously published histories of Penn State.

The History of Penn State Collegian-Style

The Collegian Chronicles recounts the history of Penn State as told by dozens of former Collegian editors and writers in a brand new, glossy, 384-page, soft-cover book off-press in time for Homecoming festivities in October.
