The Daily Collegian's Board of Directors has selected a new student management team for the next academic year.
After interviewing the candidates and deliberating behind closed doors, the board chose Jennette Hannah, a senior journalism major from Pittsburgh, as editor in chief and Clay Kohler, a senior broadcast journalism major from Fort Worth, Texas, as business manager during its March meeting.
Hannah and Kohler agreed the top priority for next year is increasing readership.
"I want to get us to do more outside of the Collegian," Kohler said. "We need to connect more with students."
Hannah said she, too, wants the paper to reach more students.
"We need to offer things that can only be found in a college newspaper," Hannah said. "We need to have more fun while keeping up the high quality."
Though Kohler had no competition for the business position, Hannah competed with 2004-2005 Managing Editor/Content Bridget Smith, an incoming senior from Philadelphia majoring in journalism.
Hannah has served as a local economy reporter, campus editor and metro editor. Kohler has served as a layout specialist.
Kohler replaced Maryland native and State College resident Julie Columbus, who is graduating this summer with a marketing degree before heading to MIT. Hannah replaced Jimmy Young of Easton, a May journalism graduate.
This is an abridged version of an article by Collegian staff reporter Laurie Cataldo published March 15 in the Collegian.
