The Daily Collegian Alumni Interest Group (AIG) has steered its efforts in a new direction by renaming the "Collegian AIG Reunion" the "Collegian Alumni Weekend" and scheduling it for April 12 through 14, 2002.
 
The Collegian Inc. Board of Directors selected student leaders for the 2001-2002 academic year Feb. 27.
 
Twenty-four Daily Collegian staff members skipped a day of classes last fall to visit USA Today, the Newseum and the nation's capital. A chartered bus left the Collegian at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, and headed to Arlington, Va., home of USA Today.

As part of The Daily Collegian's Educational Program, the News Division has developed the Peer Editor Development Program to combine practical application, classroom instruction and ongoing guidance for its staff members.
 
Associated Press writer and former Daily Collegian Editor Jerry Schwartz returned to Penn State to participate in the Fall 2000 Foster Conference of Distinguished Writers and to spend time with the students at the Collegian.

Penn State journalism senior Heather Cook was chosen as the first recipient for the newly established Daily Collegian Alumni Hall of Fame Scholarship.
 
The Daily Collegian has established a new scholarship to help Collegian students defray their educational expenses and to honor those who have played a large part in making the newspaper a success.

In the Fall 2000 semester, The Daily Collegian established two new professional staff positions to fortify the quality of educational experience and production of its daily newspaper.
 
The Daily Collegian's Board of Managers from the Business Division and the Board of Editors from the News Division met at the Nittany Winery for a one-day leadership enhancing, personal development program on the last Saturday in August 2000. The program theme was "Be Aware, Be Very Aware."
 
The Hearst Foundation, Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, Associated Collegiate Press and Columbia Scholastic Press Association rewarded The Daily Collegian for its outstanding excellence in journalism and performance with awards for 2000-2001.
 
Penn State alumni flocked to State College from far and wide the weekend of Oct. 20, 2000, to celebrate the final Homecoming celebration of the millennium, proving that "The Legacy Lives On."
 
Former Daily Collegian sportswriter Ryan Hockensmith, a senior majoring in journalism from Duncannon, Pa., became the first Penn State student and Collegian staff member in 32 years to qualify for the individual championships of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation's Journalism Awards Program.
