Penn State journalism senior Heather Cook was chosen as the first recipient for the newly established Daily Collegian Alumni Hall of Fame Scholarship.

The Petersen Scholarship recipients were Alison Kepner (junior-journalism and history), Jason McConnell (senior-advertising/public relations), Michelle Nguyen (sophomore-division of undergraduate studies) and Alissa Wisnouse (junior-journalism and women's studies).
Colleen Sullivan (senior-journalism) received the Ostar-Hutchison Scholarship.

Cook, Charleroi, Pa., started at the Collegian as a candidate Spring 1999 and served as a commonwealth general assignment, on-campus living and student government reporter and campus editor.
The Petersen Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kent A. Petersen, a Collegian sports reporter and editor from January 1989 through May 1991 and an intern with the Penn State Sports Information Department. Petersen was killed in an automobile accident in 1992 and former News Adviser Kim Strong, along with students and employees, coordinated the effort to establish

Kepner, Maytown, Pa., joined the Collegian in Fall 1999 as a candidate for the campus section in the News Division. After becoming a staff member in Spring 2000, she held the positions of campus, education and police/fire/courts reporter. She was a member of the Board of Editors and Board of Opinions.
McConnell, Chambersburg, Pa., joined the staff in Spring 2001 and held the position of account executive in the Business Division.

In Spring 2000, Nguyen, Munhall, Pa., became a staff member and served in the Business Division as a customer service and layout specialist.
Wisnouse, Moon Township, Pa., joined the Collegian Fall 1999 as a campus candidate. She has covered the diversity and on-campus living beats and worked as a news editor.

Dr. Allan W. Ostar, a 1948 alumnus of the College of Education, and his wife, Roberta Hutchison-Ostar, a 1948 journalism alumna, endowed the Ostar-Hutchison Scholarship in 1989. Ostar and Hutchison-Ostar worked at the Collegian as editor in chief and news editor, respectively.
Sullivan, Springfield, Pa., started at the Collegian Fall 2000 as candidate and held the position of municipal government reporter.
