Descriptions: Centre County

CentreConnect (formerly The Country Store)
This Web site is home for the county. Included here are listings for all 36 municipalities in Centre County, plus school districts, recreation listings, health and human services, and more. CentreConnect is described as a service of C-NET, the county's government and education access channel.

Centre County Government
Provided by the Centre County Board of Commissioners, this guide covers local government offices and agencies. Check out the "About the County" section for an extensive list of web links for local boroughs and townships in the county.

Centre County Visitors and Convention Bureau
As you might expect, this organization focuses on visitors and conventions. The Web site offers a list of area attractions, business directories, a dining directory and an on-line reservation system for lodging. That system covers hotel, motel, and bed and breakfast accommodations.

Centre County Chamber of Business & Industry
The Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County is organized to promote the well-being and growth of commerce, business and industry, while striving to maintain a high quality of life in Centre County.


State College, Pa.
Borough of State College
Provides information about borough government..

Downtown State College Partnership
Promotes downtown State College. Office provides area maps, guides, calendars, brochures and information.

State College Area School District
Home to the State College Area School District, including links to different schools as well as faculty, staff and student pages.

Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA)
Public mass transit serving metropolitan State College.

Statecollege.com
Houses a variety of links covering community resources, food and dining, retail and services, entertainment. Searchable.


Main events
First Night, State College
State College's annual New Year's festivities continue to grow. The celebration includes concerts, some incredible ice sculptures, and fireworks at midnight.

Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts
The Arts Festival is held in State College every July and attracts the largest crowd seen in State College other than for football games. The web site features some online activities as well as photos and stories from past festivals.

People's Choice Festival
Held at the same time as the arts festival in State College, this alternative festival is held on the grounds of the military museum in nearby Boalsburg and features artists primarily from Pennsylvania.

The Great American 4th of July Fireworks Festival
Another special event that helps to make area summers really great. The VIP Viewing Area added in 2001 was great option.


Community organizations
Nittany Valley Symphony
The non-profit community orchestra traces its history to the 1960s.

Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestra
A non-profit professional chamber orchestra with 15 to 25 players. Organized in 1991.

Central Pennsylvania Observers
This community amateur astronomy club, organized in 1997, holds monthly meetings and regular star watches, including public stargazing sessions at Tudek Park in State College. The club also sponsors the Black Forest Star Party at Cherry Springs State Park, near Coudersport, Pa.

Penn State Astronomy Club
This student club conducts public stargazing sessions on the roof of Davey Lab on campus. The club's Web page lists the current schedule. The club, which has its own off-campus observatory, welcomes members who are not students.
